My Gaming Landscape [June 30, 2014]

Holy crap. Ho-ly crap. HO-LY FUCK-ING CRAP! I played 24 GAMES THIS WEEK! I didn’t even photoshop a photo because there’s JUST TOO MANY! Now, I’ll be honest. Almost none of them were for very long but still. Part of the reason for this is I was in a retro mood and played a lot of Sega Genesis games. However, games back then tend to be very short so there was a lot of play a game for a half an hour, move on to the next. So lets just jump into it because this might be long even though I’m not going to spend a lot of time on any of these games.

Mario Kart 8

I finished off all the cups in Mario Kart 8 in all of the difficulties. So 50cc, 100cc, 150cc and Mirror Mode. I got started on the Time Trials but found them to be pretty hard and not really enjoyable so I’ll just try them when I feel like it. I played some online races, and I actually got first in my first try! However, I think I’m going to put down Mario Kart 8 for now and move on.

Primal Rage

I wanted to boot up my Genesis so I put in Primal Rage and holy crap, this game is not as good as I remember. I won’t say too much as I’m working on a review but I did not enjoy my time with Primal Rage. I even tried the game on different systems via emulators and although the Genesis version is definitely a lesser version, none of them are particularly good.

Sonic the Hedgehog 1 & 2

Monday was Sonic the Hedgehog’s birthday and I attempted to do a stream on Twitch to celebrate. I managed to play some of Sonic the Hedgehog 1 but my computer crashed while playing Sonic the Hedgehog 2. The VOD on Sonic the Hedgehog 1 is available now on my YouTube channel but the partial footage of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is gone. One cool thing is I downloaded Sonic the Hedgehog 2 on my Kindle and it looks really good.

PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale

For I think the third time, I tried to get into PS All-Stars and once again, while I think it’s fun, it just can’t keep my attention for very long. The single player mode is kinda boring and multiplayer just doesn’t feel good. The special attack to kill someone mechanic really limits the game and that stipulation should have been an optional rule.

God of War HD

PS All-Stars did make me want to play God of War though (I was using Kratos). I loaded up God of War HD and I’ve noticed that I’ve loaded up this game and stopped like four times. I guess I just want to kill that Hydra over and over. Someday, I’ll legitimate start a new game and complete the game again. I’ll just throw it out there that I had completed the original PS2 game.

Road Rash II

Another game I popped into my Genesis. I went through the first level but then hit a wall at the second. This game is choppy as hell. I wouldn’t be surprised if that game runs at 15 frames a second. However, it’s so fucking fun. Smacking dudes on their bikes with a stick or a chain never gets old. EA really needs to bring this series back, maybe tri-annually with the Burnout and Need for Speed franchises.

Street Fighter III: Third Strike Online and Guilty Gear X2 Accent Core Plus

My buddy Don came over and we played some SF3 and GGX2. I held my own in SF3 but I was way out of my league in GGX2. I don’t understand that game. I get Street Fighter, I get Mortal Kombat, I get King of Fighters and a bunch of other fighters. I don’t get Guity Gear. I need to practice.

Mario Kart 7

Since I finished Mario Kart 8, I loaded up Mario Kart 7 on my 3DS and realized that I never finished it. I still haven’t finished it but I did manage to unlock all the characters. I’ve done everything but Mirror mode now. I feel like I’m saying this a lot but I’ll do it someday.

Little Inferno

This week was the Steam sale and I didn’t want to spend too much so I spent around 17 bucks on five games: Retro City Rampage, LocoCycle, Super Amazing Wagon Adventure, Gone Home and Little Inferno. I’ve only loaded up Little Inferno and I think it’s really interesting. I’m not sure how a game like this would end but I’m sure I’ll find out…someday.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare

I recorded more COD4 and finished the game. I did not enjoy it really. I think I’m just really tired of this series and even going back to what’s supposed to be a great one left me cold. I tried some multiplayer too and didn’t do as bad as I thought I would. People on the server were nice as well, especially being a noob. Here’s a link to the playlist of my playthrough and the last campaign video and the multiplayer video goes up tomorrow and Wednesday.

Mega Man Zero and The Castlevania Adventure

I was messing with my emulators on my Wii and I loaded up Mega Man Zero and The Castlevania Adventure to test my GBA emulator. I forgot how much I liked MMZ. Such a good series. As for Castlevania Adventure, that game moves so slowly, it makes it hard to get into.

Aero the Acro-Bat

I loaded up Aero the Acro-Bat to test my Genesis emulator. After playing it for a bit, I decided to do a video on it. Unfortunately, my computer froze during the recording and the footage was lost. So much for that! The game is a bit more fun than I remember though. Then again, I only got to level three.

Golden Axe 1, 2, and 3

I have the Sonic’s Ultimate Genesis Collection for my Xbox 360 and continuing with my retro theme, I played all of the Golden Axe games. In all of them, I can only get to the second to last level before dying but using a lives cheat, I can beat the first two games. There is no lives cheat for the third game however, so I haven’t beaten it. The second game is the best game in the series and the first might actually be the worst. The hit detection in all the games is actually pretty bad but the first game is particularly terrible. They’re still all fun games but nothing great, especially when compared to the awesome Streets of Rage series.

Altered Beast

Again, from the Sonic’s Ultimate Genesis Collection, I played both the Genesis and Arcade version of the game. Altered Beast is such an old feeling game and it plays in such an antiquated way. However, it’s still fun, if only because of nostalgia.

Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition

I got the Xbox 360 of Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition thanks to Games with Gold and thought I’d give it a try. Still fun and awesome, of course, but I’ve been spoiled with my fight pad on the PS3 and it’s hard to go back to a standard controller. I’m really digging Evil Ryu since he feels different from normal Ryu, my character of choice. I still need to get Ultra Street Fighter IV although that’ll be for my PS3 version.

The Wolf Among Us: Episode 1 “Faith”

I started The Wolf Among Us because I don’t know. I have the 360 version because it was given for free last holiday but that is the worst version. This game really doesn’t run well on the 360 and I think I might was to get the PC version and start over. I did like what I played though. I got to the point where they’re in Crane’s office.

Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1

I had Sonic on the brain since it was his birthday so I loaded up Sonic 4 Ep.1. I don’t think I had played that game on my newer flat screen HDTV because man does Sonic look really shiny! That game plays fine but still isn’t anything amazing and I still can’t get all the Chaos Emeralds.

Sonic Adventure 2

This is my friend’s favorite Sonic game and I don’t know why. As a Sonic fan, I always saw this game as being solely in the good but not great category. So I loaded it up on my PC and finished it in around five hours. I actually liked the game less and part of the reason was all the bugs I ran into. I wonder if there’s something wrong with the PC Steam version of Sonic Adventure 2. I should also mention my other issues with the game: Why does the police and government have Robotnik-like robots? Why is Knuckles pointless to the game’s story? Why is Tails in a mech? Why is Shadow Sonic’s rival in this game when they only interact three times in the story before teaming up? How did Amy get on the military base? Why are there two buttons that do the same thing but do multiple things depending on the situation? Why don’t the lips sync up with the voices? WHY DO KNUCKLES AND ROGUE’S LEVELS SUCK SO HARD!?

Eternal Sonata

The last game of this week is (hopefully) the only game I’ll be talking about in depth next week. By yesterday, I was aware that I had been playing way too many games. I wanted to play something that I would stick to and I decided that with it being summer, this is the perfect time to take care of a long game. Despite being at the last area of the game, I’ve never completed Eternal Sonata. I love this game so I decided to start a new file (since I forgot most of the plot of the game) and focus on finishing the game. Unlike my last playthrough, I’m not going to worry about completing it and getting all the achievements and side quests and such. I’m just going to play it and enjoy it. I can always play it again for the completionist in me. I won’t mind because I love this game.

So that’s everything I played. Now I want to know what you played! Let me know in the comment section below. Till next time, Peace and Love, gamers and players!
