Peace and Love, gamers and players! Welcome to My Gaming Landscape for the past week, where I talk about what I’ve been playing for the past week. In light of this week’s bad news about the sales of the Wii U, I ended up playing a lot of my Wii U! So this is a Wii U filled week!
New Super Mario Bros. U
This is the game that came with my Wii U when I bought it last December, along with New Super Luigi U, but I never beat it because I got bored with it. Since then, I’ve popped it in every now and then and chipped away at the story mode and I’m now at the seventh world. I’ve managed to get all of the secret exits and star coins up to this point so whenever I do finish this game, I’ll probably do it at 100%!
My problem with this game is that although it’s good ol’ Mario and the platforming (for the most part) is as solid as ever, the levels and gameplay is the same crap we’ve seen for awhile now. There’s just no originality or creativity with this game. The only real nice thing is that it’s in HD and it looks real good. However, it doesn’t look that good as I think Super Mario Galaxy looks better as there’s more detail in the character models despite being a game in standard definition. I’ll finish this game eventually, I suppose.
Tekken Tag Tournament 2
I was still jonesing for a fighting game after last week and as I was in the mood for playing my Wii U, I played my only fighting game for the platform, Tekken Tag Tournament 2. I love this game and it might be my favorite game for the Wii U, which is sad since it was released on the 360 and PS3. I actually played the game on the gamepad alone while I had YouTube playing on my TV. I mostly was playing through the arcade mode as I need to unlock all of the endings in the game. Luckily this game isn’t very hard on Medium difficulty. One thing that bugs me about Tekken Tag 2 and pretty much all Tekken games since 5 or so is the way you can juggle people after they’ve already hit the ground, as they bounce. That’s just stupid. Why is everyone in Tekken made of rubber?
Anyways, I also started customizing costumes for Kazuya, as he’s my favorite character. I used to really like Paul but ever since 5, I’ve started to prefer Kazuya. So far I’ve got a gangster outfit for him and a superhero outfit. One problem with this game is it takes way too long to be able to afford to buy anything in this game. Everything’s way too expensive. Aside from that, I really like this game and although it might be better on the PS3 and 360 due to the most likely bigger online presence, it plays great on the Wii U since the gamepad has a better dpad than either console except for maybe the transforming dpad on the 360.
Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate
I bought this game the same time I bought Tekken Tag Tournament 2 solely because I watched YouTuber Dodger play it on her channel and it looked fun. However, since then, I haven’t really sat down and play it. I started now and…I don’t know if I like it after all. I can’t find a weapon I like since it takes so long to swing anything you have, except for the dual blades. However, those can’t really block. Also, I don’t really like the controls as the button mapping just feels off. I also don’t like that I can’t map the shoulder buttons to be something else instead of L and R doing the same thing as ZL and ZR. I mean you can have it do stuff to communicate with people online but nothing in terms of the actual gameplay.
Speaking of gameplay, most of the stuff so far has been tutorials and fetch quests and I haven’t done anything that has gotten me going. Graphics are kind of terrible as it’s clearly just a standard definition game put on a high def console and even then, I think it could’ve looked better. I’ll keep playing it but I’m not enjoying myself so far and I might just get rid of it if I can’t find something I enjoy soon.
Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes
This was the only game I played before I decided to use my Wii U for awhile. So this is the 360 version I mentioned I bought a few weeks ago. Not much to say as I only played through one level but man, it was a boring one. The level in the Ace Chemicals plant sucks. The only good thing about it is I got to be Superman for the first time there.
Finally, I played more Final Fantasy IV and Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare for my YouTube channel. So check out the links below:
That’s everything I’ve been playing for the past week. Now I want to hear from all of you! What have you been playing this past week? Let me know in the comment section below and be sure to check out my blog at colorwynd.wordpress.com for more stuff on gaming as well as movies, music and more.
