My Gaming Landscape [November 5, 2013]

My Gaming Landscape

Not too much to say this week. I played a little bit of Assassin’s Creed II but it was mostly me looking for gold chests and upgrading my armor. I stopped playing ACII because I forgot that I had Assassin’s Creed: Director’s Cut on my PC via Gamefly so I started playing that and I’m around 2/3 of the way through it. For some reason, I’m enjoying myself more in this game than I did ACII, though I was liking what ACII was doing now that I had gotten into it. There’s something about Altair that I like, despite him being admittedly a giant douchbag. Also, I swear the free-run mechanic is better in the first game. I’ll probably finish it sometime this week and then continue with ACII.

A game I did complete is Puppeteer. I played that game for review and I really enjoyed it. That game has so much style, it bleeds into the gameplay in the best way possible. Every level take wild turns in locations and then all feel in place with the Marionette Theatre aesthetic. One level for example starts off on a snowy mountain before turning into a lava filled volcano and then rocketing off into space. The level design is the best I’ve seen this year since DmC: Devil May Cry and may be better than that game. The one big problem is that the actual basic platforming, as in jump from here to here, doesn’t feel very good. Also, sometimes the world is so cluttered, it’s hard to see what’s going on. Check out my review of the game, which I’m in the process of writing, for my full thoughts and a score.

Finally, I played some Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island for my YouTube channel. I love that game, it’s my favorite SNES game, deal with it. Alright, that’s what I played. What about you?
