Question: Gaming Hierarchy

This isn’t a blog post so much as it is a conversation starter. I read 1up’s Jeremy Parish’s article about the first Parasite Eve game for the original PlayStation and I remember trying the game but not understanding it and giving up. I felt that the game was above what I could understand. A few months ago, I wrote about how I see the Sega Saturn as a console with an aura of mystery and inaccessibility to me. Another article I wrote was about my puzzlement of how gamers played PC games due to the cost of a computer. All of this made me realize that I seem to have had a class based idea of video games. Some games were for poor people (Sega Genesis) and some were for rich people (SNK NeoGeo AES). Games work the same way, with some being for everyone (Spyro the Dragon) and some being for a select few (SaGa Frontier). My question is do any of you feel this way? Do you remember thinking that some games were just too much for you? Do you have a hierarchy like perception of games in some way, either before or now? Comment and let me know. A Thumbs Up is also always nice.

You talking to me? Are you...talking to me?
