Colorwind Reacts: Ubisoft E3 2011 Press Conference

Arrgghhh! Gotta keep up!

A video celebrating Ubisoft’s 25 year anniversary kicks off the conference.

Rayman Origins

Gameplay was shown and it looks really fun! Colorful characters and environments and well drawn graphics gives this game such a wonderful whimsical feel. It’s a platformer with multiple players in the vein of New Super Mario Bros. One player is Rayman and the other is Globox. One of the levels resembles a side scrolling shoot ‘em up. The game was played on the Xbox 360 and looks great in HD.

Next was a quick recap of the time when Ubisoft was first launched. “Mr. Caffeine” was there making bad jokes and talking about the 80s. I hate Mr. Caffeine.

Driver: San Francisco

A trailer showing off San Francisco was shown. The graphics look good but boring. Car chases were shown and nothing really impressed me. Also, I already heard about the lame story this game has and this game will probably suck.

Far Cry 3

The main guy is taking photos until he’s caught. This guy starts talking a bunch of crap and knocks you into the water below. The graphics look good if a bit robotic but nothing seems to be a true driving point for the game. Gameplay seems typical, sneaking around in first person, shooting, avoiding gunfights. Survival is the key. Seems like a good game if maybe not a truly outstanding game.

Brothers in Arms: Furious Four

Randy Pitchfork of Gearbox Software comes up on stage talking about Brothers in Arms but then presents this game. Again, reminding me of Bulletstorm, its over the top and campy but nothing was really said about the game. Too early to tell.

The Adventures of Tin Tin: The Game

A video with Steven Spielberg talking about the game describe the game and talk about how they heard about this tale. A trailer is shown and … meh. Don’t care. Move on.

Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Future Soldier

An old school Ghost Recon is then shown (as a joke) by Mr. Caffeine (go away) and then a demo of the game is shown. The game uses the same interface as the new Splinter Cell game with some of the text being shown on the locals directly. The mission shows a run down town run by your enemies and you working as a team to take them out. It’s revealed that the campaign is actually being played by three other people making it 4 player co-op. Eventually, you rescue your target and the demo ends. The game looks intense and fun but nothing seems new or different from the GRAW series. Honestly, this is not the same game that we saw before.

Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Online

A free online only game. That’s kind of cool for those who are really into Ghost Recon. It looks good (for a free game) and the action looks like it’ll be intense. Also, it’ll link with Future Soldier. I don’t care but I know some might.

Trackmania 2

It was stressed that this game is made by the player and content will be dependent on them. A trailer showed the fairly decent graphics and racing action. Meh. Don’t care. It’ll be released in September. Shootmania and –mania was also announced.

Raving Rabbids Alive and Kicking

A game for Kinect. I like them beating the crap out of the Rabbids and how it turns your environment into part of the level. However, eventually it turns into another gimmicky Kinect game. Disappointed. Comes out November 8th.

Just Dance 3

After another annoying flashback parody, Just Dance 3 announced for Xbox 360 Kinect, Wii, and Playstation 3 Move. A trailer showing people (including Katy Perry) playing the game followed.

A video talking about how you can learn to play the guitar with the game was played. It featured Dave Navarro because why not. It’ll be released in the fall. Hardly any gameplay was shown so I can’t really talk about it. I like Rock Band and Guitar Hero but there’s nothing to show how it distinguishes itself from those games.

Your Shape: Fitness Evolved 2012

A trailer was shown. I don’t care about this and you shouldn’t either. They can’t improve from the previous game. Next.

Assassin’s Creed Revelations

A cell shaded Assassin’s Creed video was played and then the producer and creative director of Assassin’s Creed Revelations came onstage. A live action trailer was shown and was said that the story will follow Ezio looking for the secrets Altair left. No gameplay was shown. A demo was then shown. It looks great and the animations seem to be tweaked to look better. The smoke bombs are cool your followers return from the previous game. A turret battle with a flamethrower cannon was shown and was pretty awesome. A focus on action was the headliner for the demo. A mysterious door was shown at the end. I like Assassin’s Creed so I’m looking forward to it. However, I’m not blind to the fact that Ubisoft is now milking the Assassin’s Creed franchise.

Okay. Ubisoft’s press conference sucked. Many of the games weren’t really good at all and Mr. Caffine is fucking annoying. At least they started and finished the conference on high notes. Standouts were Rayman Origins and Assassin’s Creed Revelations.

You talking to me? Are you...talking to me?
